This is a very rare vintage Glycine Airman SST “Pumpkin” watch in excellent condition. This watch dates from 1969-1971 and back then was the watch of choice for many airline pilots.
This watch has a 24 hour display meaning the hour hand only rotates once each day. The dial is two-tone: grey for AM and black for PM. There is an internal bezel rotated by the top crown which enables you to keep time in another time zone. There is also a wire hacking mechanism between the 2 and the 4 of the 24 on the inner dial which can be used to stop the second hand. The date is shown at 3pm.
The watch is big for a ‘vintage’, measuring 42mm across by 51mm down by 12mm thick, with 22mm lugs. The stainless steel case maintains its original sunburst finish and the plexi crystal is in great shape.
The watch has an automatic movement which was fully serviced by Steve Burrage at Rytetime in October 2011 and is running well, keeping great time.
The original stainless steel bracelet with signed clasp is currently sized to fit up to a 7.7 inch wrist but there are four extra links which will add up to another 0.6 inch.
The watch will also come with a barely used and very comfortable original Glycine Airman 22mm leather strap with signed buckle, as shown.
The watch comes in its original birch wooden box.
