Here we have an incredible 1973 Rolex 5512 Submariner with the most beautiful pumpkin orange original lume matte dial!
The dial on this watch is something really special – mark and chip free with clear white writing and the usual 4 lines of text for a 5512 being as it is a Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified.
The dial has turned a deep charcoal grey colour and the lume has gone an amazing orange shade that my pictures really do not do justice – it is a much deeper orange in person. The original lume has the typical flat lattice pattern as expected and seen on these early 70’s matte dial sports Rolex watches. The hands have darkened also but are a shade or so lighter than the hour plots.
Comes on it’s original excellent bezel with mark free fat font kissing 4 insert.
Case is super fat and clean and has those amazing ‘Bexley bevels’ as the watch has just been serviced by Rolex UK so still has the remaining balance of its 2 year International warranty.
Dating to 1973, the 3,4m serial number is clear between the lugs. Comes with Rolex service presentation box and matching serial service paperwork.
Early matte dial 5512 Submariners are a rare bird, considerably rarer than it’s 5513 brother and 1680 Date cousin it seems. Ones with this sort of case, history and dial are almost unique! I’ve certainly never had one like it.
