Here we have a superb 1979 Rolex GMT Master known as the ‘Root Beer’ and with the rare and desirable early ‘nipple dial’.
This watch is in fantastic all round condition having just returned from a spa treatment with my watchmaker and a full mechanical service warrantied for 12 months.
These rare watches get their ‘Root Beer’ name from the colour of the bezel and this one has a beautiful lightly faded one which complements the watch so well.
They also sometimes get called the Clint Eastwood, as he owned one of these watches and can be seen wearing one in a number of his films.
The brown ‘nipple dial’, so called because of the nipple shaped tritium hour markers, is in fantastic condition with no chips around the edge or fading/discolouring which usually besets these dials. The original tritium gold hands are also in very good condition and like the dial no longer glow.
The steel case is full and fat, as can be seen, with no noticeable marks to the sides or lugs and the gold bezel and original gold crown are both in very nice clean condition. Inner case back is correctly engraved and both the 6.0m serial number and model number of 1675 can be seen clearly engraved between the lugs.
Movement is clean and keeping excellent time as expected of a newly serviced watch.
The bi metal jubilee bracelet is also in very clean condition with strong clasp and has the usual slight stretch that all vintage jubilees seem to get.
Overall this is a very nice rare Rolex 1675 bi-metal Rootbeer Nipple Dial GMT Master that the new owner I’m certain will be very pleased with!
Will come in a vintage suede Rolex Carry pouch.
