This stunning mirror dial gilt Rolex 5513 Submariner is one of my old personal watches that I always regretted selling. It is coming back to me once more but I can’t justify keeping it myself at the minute, as I already have far far too many gilt Subs!
It is a 1.38m serial, so late 1966, with the rare ‘number of the beast’ case back – VI.66
It has a superb gilt gloss dial with deep gloss and mint gilt gold writing and original puffy/lumpy deep yellow tritium lume plots so typical of these late 60’s gilt dials. The hands are a slightly later original tritium lume also and are a really good match and do not glow. It really looks superb in the flesh!
The case has nice thick lugs, super clean with no corrosion and a clean movement. Like most 50 year old watches it has had a light polish in the past at some point.
Awesome faded really fat font insert with matching tritium pearl in a lovely deep charcoal colour.
Comes on an excellent condition and very tight full size 93150 bracelet with correct 580 end pieces and in a vintage suede Rolex carry pouch.
Mint gilt dial 5513’s are the watch which every vintage Rolex collector really wants at the moment and prices have been rising dramatically over the last 18 months and they get snapped up quickly.
I doubt this one will be available for very long.
