Here we have a rare opportunity to purchase a tropical brown dial metres first Rolex Red Submariner reference 1680.
This stunning watch has a 2.35m serial which is correct for the early mk2 Red Sub dial and dates the watch correctly to 1969.
One of the most sought after of all vintage Rolex Submariners the mk2 meters first Red Sub dial occasionally goes a lovely tropical brown in colour that is seen when in direct light and really pops in sunlight. This one is in fantastic condition with a lovely uniform brown and original tritium lume to both the dial and hands. It really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated!
The case is still fat as you can see in the pictures with original bevels still partially visible and worn with age and the movement is super clean and fully serviced so keeping good time. The 2.35m serial number and 1680 reference numbers are clearly engraved between the lugs and the case back is stamped inside and dated iii.69 correctly dating it to the 3rd quarter of 1969. The bezel insert is a later service item.
The watch comes on a correct 9315 folded link bracelet with 580 end pieces and the crystal has been swapped to an original tropic 19 ‘non cyclops’ to give the watch a cleaner look. The original top hat cyclops crystal will come with the watch and can be swapped back by my watchmaker if preferred, it is simply cosmetic.
Overall an extremely nice rare collectors watch which pictures do not really do justice!
