1968 Rolex 5513 Submariner Metres First with rare Zinc Sulphide tritium lume matte dial.
This is a rare 1968 Rolex Submariner with a 1.9m serial engraved clearly between the 6 o’clock lug and that matches the previous Rolex UK international service guarantee that accompanies it. The model number 5513 is engraved between the 12 o’clock lug and inside the caseback alongside a IV.68 date being the 4th quarter of 1968 .
What makes this piece so rare is that it comes with it’s original Rolex Meters First dial in superb condition and with all original zinc sulfide tritium lume to both the dial and hands.
The zinc sulphide lume was a very rare mix used by Rolex for only two years between 1967 and 1968, is highly sought after by collectors, and has the rare property of still glowing like a torch when exposed to UV light or bright light. But unlike modern lume dies away relatively quickly as the tritium element is now dead after 50+ years.
The watch comes with an original 1960’s box and previous Rolex UK international service guarantee paperwork as mentioned. It is fitted to a later but correct Rolex 93150 Oyster fliplock bracelet with correct 580 end pieces and a later faded grey bezel insert. It can come with an all black bezel insert if preferred to the faded grey look.
The watch looks fantastic in person, has come to us from a well known collector client who actually purchased it from us originally a number of years ago and viewing is highly recommended!

Does it get any better than a classic vintage simple metres first Rolex Submariner? Probably not for the money…
