Here we have an absolutely stunning 1975 Rolex GMT Master 1675 bi-metal known as the ‘Root Beer’ and with the rare and desirable early brown ‘nipple dial’.
The early bi-metal and all gold GMT all shared the same model number 1675 as the steel model. It wasn’t until later that the new models 16753 and 16758 were used for the newer bi-metal and Gold GMT Master.
So we can expect these early 4 digit models with applied logo dial to be the most sought after by collectors and to achieve the higher prices in the future, especially if in the condition of this exceptional piece.
These super rare watches get their ‘Root Beer’ name from the colour of the bezel and this one has a beautiful lightly faded one which complements the watch so well.
They also sometimes get called the Clint Eastwood, as he owned one of these watches and can be seen wearing it in a number of his films.
The brown ‘nipple dial’, so called because of the nipple shaped tritium hour markers, is in fantastic condition with no chips around the edge or fading/discolouring which usually besets these dials. It is very hard to find a mint dial on these early watches. The original tritium gold hands are also in very good condition and, like the dial, no longer glow.
This watch is in fantastic all round condition having had a full service at Rolex UK and still has the remainder of their Rolex International Warranty.
The steel case is full and fat, as can be seen, with no noticeable marks to the sides or lugs and the gold bezel and original gold crown are both in very nice clean condition. Inner case back is correctly engraved and both the 4.0m serial number and model number of 1675 can be seen clearly engraved between the lugs.
Movement is clean and keeping excellent time as expected of a recently serviced watch.
The full size bi-metal jubilee bracelet is also in very nice condition with strong clasp and not overly stretched like a lot of these can become.
Overall this is a stunning rare Rolex 1675 bi-metal Rootbeer Nipple Dial GMT Master 1675 that the new owner I’m certain will be very pleased with! They are becoming highly collectible like all GMT Masters have become and should be a strong investment piece for the future.
The watch will come with it’s Rolex UK service papers and in a vintage suede Rolex Carry pouch and Rolex Service box.
