Here we have a stunning first series and incredibly rare tropical brown dial Mk2 ‘Thin Case’ original Rolex 1665 Double Red Seadweller (DRSD).

This first issue series watch has the 1.7m serial number dating the case to 1967 with a IV.67 stamped caseback. The early cases are known as the ‘thin case’ and have the helium escape valve slightly higher on the case side than the later fatter cases. The serial number is clear between the lugs at the 6 o’clock position and the last 3 digits of this serial number are also correctly stamped inside the case back, as Rolex did with all it’s rare issue watches (including milsubs and Comex). The case is in really nice condition still with fat lugs and the ‘bexley bevel’ having only had one service/polish at Rolex UK in 2013 (the service guarantee card comes with watch). It also has a fantastic faded grey fat font original bezel and comes on a 9315 folded link bracelet with 280 end pieces and a ‘Patent Pending’ clasp.

The dial on this watch is amazing! As with an extremely small number of these Mark 2 dials it has naturally gone a gorgeous brown colour that looks almost normal in the shade but REALLY pops brown in the sunshine as can be seen in the pictures. A flawless dial with all original lume that has gone a lovely complimenting yellow tone.

These dials are highly desirable by serious collectors worldwide and rarely become available in this mint condition. The watch has only had two owners in its entire lifetime, having been bought from the original owners 10 years ago and been kept in a bank safe deposit box in our private collection ever since.
