Vintage Rolex 1680 Red Submariner For Sale 1972 – Full Collector Set

Here we have a Vintage Rolex 1680 Red Submariner Fors Sale from 1972.

Over the years many Rolex red submariners have passed through my hands. Whether as part of my personal collection or watches sourced for others.

This watch was my personal watch for many years before passing to a very good friend. Last week it came back to me and very happy I was to see it again as it’s still to this day the best red submariner I’ve seen!

A 2.8m serial dates the watch to 1972 and the caseback is stamped ii 72 confirming a mid 1972 build date.

Punched guarantee booklet is dated November 1972 for sale.

The dial on this watch is breathtaking. It is perfect with no marks, minute chips or blemishes and has the most amazing yellow hour plots and matching hands. The dial writing is perfect and the red submariner text stands out superbly against the yellow plots. The matching mark free fat font insert has faded to a beautiful charcoal grey with matching yellow tritium pearl.

The watch is still under guarantee from Rolex having been fully serviced by them in 2011 and not worn since return.

Now the watch itself is easily one of the best there is but has the advantage of not only having its original punched papers but also its original rare ‘green stripe’ box, original matching numbered hang tags, the matching numbered wallet and the original case back sticker….after 40 years!

A true collectors dream.

Sadly my photographic skills will never do this watch any justice whatsoever. I have tried taking it in different studio and natural lights so you can get an idea and even included a picture I took about 5 years ago in a light tent that shows how colourful it can look in certain lights.

Dial & Hands: This piece has the most stunning unmarked Rolex 1680 red feet first ‘open 6’ dial with beautiful yellow plots and matching original tritium Rolex hands you are probably ever likely to see. Matching faded fat font insert with matching tritium yellow pearl.

Case & Caseback: Beautiful Rolex UK lightly polished case with beveled edges that only Rolex UK do so well. Rolex caseback correctly stamped with year, quarter and model numbers. Serial numbers clearly visible between the lugs. The case is completely mark free having not been worn since return from Rolex – anything you see in the pictures is dust or reflections.

Bracelet: Is currently wearing a very nice Rolex 93150 bracelet with correct Rolex 580 end pieces but can come on it’s original Rolex USA rivet bracelet stamped 7-72 in excellent condition if you wish.

Movement: Original non-hacking Rolex 1570 movement keeping perfect time having been recently serviced at Rolex UK and still under warranty. Original open 6’s silver date wheel.
